Help for Overweight Kids
Article by Arnie Gitomer
Fat that lies just below the skin, particularly around the abdomen, is hard to shed. In this study, 17 obese boys and girls, average age 10, took a placebo or a carotenoid combination of beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, astaxanthin, and gamma tocopherol.
After six months, kids in the carotenoid group saw 4 percent less of this type of fat tissue while the placebo group had increased 4.2 percent. Waist size also decreased 3 percent for the carotenoid group and body mass index scores improved significantly. Doctors said beta-carotene may help regulate fat tissue in children with obesity.

One of my favorite supplements is CarotenALL® by Jarrow Formulas. It would be the perfect supplement to use for this purpose.
- CarotenALL® contains alpha- and beta-carotene extracted from palm fruit (EVTene™) in a ratio similar to carrots. One softgel of CarotenALL® provides greater amounts of the major carotenoids (Alpha- & Beta-Carotene, Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Lycopene) than 5–6 servings of fruits and vegetables.
- Lycopene is an antioxidant carotenoid extracted from non-GMO tomatoes (Lyc-O-Mato®). Lycopene protects against damage from the reactive oxygen species (ROS) singlet oxygen.
- Lutein is an antioxidant carotenoid that occurs in nature with zeaxanthin. Dietary lutein and zeaxanthin concentrate in the eye’s macula and lens where they protect these tissues from oxidative stress.* Astaxanthin is a highly-potent antioxidant carotenoid found in seafood and algae that protects lipids from per oxidation.
