Ayurvedic Herb Bacopa Improves Memory
The ancient practice of Ayurvedic medicine relies on bacopa monnieri as a nerve tonic. In this study, 60 healthy older men and women took a placebo, or 300 mg or 600 mg of bacopa monnieri per day.
After four weeks, compared to placebo, the 300 mg bacopa monnieri group had better attention quality and continuity, improvements which continued through the 12-week study and four weeks beyond.
For the 600 mg bacopa monnieri group, memory speed increased at four weeks, and from eight weeks on, both groups saw memory speed improve, continuing through four weeks beyond the end of the study. Bacopa monnieri was safe, and all participants completed the study.
