Willner Chemists: The Nutritional Supplement Professionals
The use of Pelargonium sidoides extract is based on
traditional use by Zulu healers in the Eastern Cape province
of South Africa, and has been known to modern science
since the 1890s. The word “umckaloabo” is derived from the
two Zulu words, “umkhuhlane” (fever and cough-related
illnesses) and “uhlabo” (chest pain related to pleurisy) (16). In
the early 1920s, the Englishman Charles Stevens traveled to
South Africa for the treatment of his tuberculosis. He turned
to a Basuto tribal healer who gave him a medicine derived
from umckaloabo. He eventually recovered from his illness.
Extracts of the root have been available in German
pharmacies since 1983 without prescription and have found
widespread usage against infections of the sinus, throat, and
respiratory tract.

Propolis Resin 1:5
Lead Free
1 fl oz - Product Code: 57072
Who might benefit from this herbal supplement?
• Those suffering from microbial infections.
Propolis is a tree resin that the bees use to coat their hive. It
prevents bacterial infection in the hive and keeps the bees
healthy.
Propolis is a very strong anti-microbial, bacterial and viral. It
is important for the Propolis to be pretreated to remove lead
toxicity as it naturally contains lead. Our Propolis is lead-free.
Propolis is primarily an acute and first aid remedy. It is best in
the acute mode of a cold or any other infection. Herbalists
recommend Propolis for bronchitis, pneumonia and other
respiratory infections.
Dosage:
General: 10-25 drops, 2-3 times per day or as needed in
juice or water.
Acute: 20-30 drops every 2 hours to fight infection.
Red Yeast Rice Q10
A naturally fermented yeast strain shown to be
especially supportive to cardiovascular health.
90 Veggie Caps - Product Code: 67464
Who might benefit from the use of this product?
• Those with high cholesterol, high triglycerides and other
heart contitions.
Ingredients:
Each vegetarian capsule contains Certified Organic Red Yeast
Rice (Monascus purpureus) 600mg, CoQ10 (Ubiquinone)
30mg. The capsule contains Modified Vegetable Cellulose.
Indications:
Red Yeast Rice is produced by fermenting yeast (Monascus
purpureus) over rice. It has a long history of use in Chinese
medicine to lower cholesterol, improve blood circulation,
and help digestion. Studies report that Red Yeast Rice can
lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, total
cholesterol, and triglycerides by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-
CoA reductace, which helps the body make cholesterol. Red
Yeast Rice naturally contains similar compounds (monacolins)
as those contained in statin medications (pharmaceuticals
used to lower cholesterol). The difference is that statins are
synthetically manufactured drugs, whereas the compounds
found in Red Yeast Rice are naturally occurring. Researchers
are uncertain as to whether Red Yeast Rice is effective
because of its natural statin-like compounds or if it is other
constituents in it, such as sterols, isoflavones, and
monounsaturated fatty acids, that are responsible.
It is important to avoid Red Yeast Rice products that may be
low quality and may contain citrinin, a contaminate that can
cause kidney failure and genetic damage to cells. Citrin is
formed when Red Yeast Rice is not fermented properly. In
addition, much of the Red Yeast Rice on the market,
especially imported Red Yeast Rice, is processed with heat,
which diminishes its activity. Phyto-Tech™ uses a high quality
Organic Red Yeast Rice produced in the United States that is
cold-processed in order to maintain purity, potency, safety,
and a high activity level. Every batch is tested to insure no
citrinin is present and monacolins are consistent as a natural
product.
Because Red Yeast Rice is a natural type of statin and inhibits
the enzyme in the body that is needed to make cholesterol,
like statins drugs, it blocks the body’s ability to produce
Coenzyme Q-10 (Co-Q10). If one is taking statin drugs or
Red Yeast Rice, Co-Q10 should also be taken to avoid
depletion. Co-Q10 is required for the production of energy
within every cell of our body and is critical for the health of
all tissues and organs. It acts as a catalyst to the electron
transport chain in the mitochondria of our cells where ATP
(adenosine triphosphate) energy is produced. Co-Q10 is
especially important for the health of the heart due to the
organ’s high-energy demands. It can benefit anyone
experiencing cardiovascular problems such as high blood
pressure, high cholesterol, angina, arrhythmias or congestive
heart failure. Co-Q10 improves overall heart function by
enhancing energy production, inhibiting blood clot
formation, improving the heart’s pumping action, and
preventing the oxidation of LDL (bad cholesterol).

Probiotics Reduce C. Difficile
Infection
D
oes it make sense to take probiotic
supplements at the same time you are
taking antibiotics? This has been an often
raised question in the past. This research
sheds additional light on this question.
Earlier studies found that probiotics reduce
the chances of developing the bacterial
infection clostridium difficile (C. diff) while
taking antibiotics, but few studies have tested
probiotics with antibiotics during an initial C.
diff infection. C. diff is the most common
hospital-acquired infection, and is also
common during courses of broad-spectrum or
long-term antibiotics, particularly in older
adults.
In this study, 33 people with an initial mild
to moderate C. diff infection took a standard
antibiotic treatment with or without 17 billion
total colony-forming units of the probiotics L.
acidophilus and paracasei, and B. bacterium
lactis.
After 28 days, those taking probiotics saw
symptoms ease 24 hours sooner than
placebo. Discussing the findings, doctors said
even a small decrease in the length of
infection can have a large benefit in the cost
of care and can improve the quality of life.
