and E. These catechins include four major polyphenols
including epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epicatechin gallate
(ECG), epigallocatechin (EGC) and epicatechin (EC). Of these
compounds EGCG is the most abundant in green tea and
has generated the most interest. Peer?reviewed scientific
research has consistently shown that EGCG is a potent
antioxidant, deactivating health-damaging free-radicals. By
virtue of its antioxidant effects EGCG has been shown to
exert a number of beneficial activities, such as reducing
inflammation, and normalizing cell and tissue functions. In
promoting cardiovascular health EGCG has been shown to
inhibit free-radical activity in the arteries, improving coronary
circulation. Other studies have shown that ECGC has a bene-
fit in normalizing blood glucose and protecting the pancreas
from oxidative damage, as well as in boosting metabolism
and burning fat. Green tea catechins and ECGC in particular
have also been shown to naturally support detoxification and
the elimination of toxic substances from the body while pro-
tecting the liver.
Grape skin and grape seed extracts are anti-inflammatory
and radioprotective. They are abundant in a group of
polyphenols called procyanidins. Procyanidins are strong
antioxidants, lipid peroxidation inhibitors, and free radical
scavengers. Procyanidins have antimutagenic effects, mean-
ing they can counteract environmental mutagens, which are
thought to be one of the causes of chronic degenerative dis-
eases. Procyanidins also increase circulation making them
helpful for conditions such as venous insufficiency (a condi-
tion in which the veins have trouble sending blood from the
legs back to the heart). A placebo controlled study showed
that treatment with procyanidins improved venous function-
ality and reduced pain, cramps, edema and paresthesias (tin-
gling). Due to procyanidins positive effects on circulation,
grape skin and seed extracts are helpful for numerous vision
disorders. Studies show treatment with procyanidins from the
extracts increase resistance to glare, decrease ocular stress
from prolonged activity at a computer and improve contrast
sensitivity, retinal function and sensitivity in myopia (near-
sightedness).

Arnica Oil 1:6 Topical
A popular first-aid remedy for trauma, injuries.
1 fl oz - Prod Code: 57082
Arnica is the pre-eminent remedy for trauma, injuries, and
accidents and is a common part of first aid kits and home
medicine cabinets. This topical oil is massaged into painful
tissue that has been traumatized from an accident, athletic
event and overexertion. Massage Therapists and
Chiropractors commonly use arnica oil on muscle and joints
that are problematic in order to disburse congested fluids in
a painful area.
It is thought that Arnica works as a fluid transport stimulating
herb. It moves interstitual fluids through ischemic tissue.
Ischemic tissue is tissue that has diminished oxygen content
because of restricted blood and fluid flow. This action by
Arnica on the painful tissue helps it heal and stop the pain
cycle. As a result of the increased circulation, cellular waste
is removed, bruises clear up, pain diminishes, tissue heals,
tissue oxygenates and recovery time is significantly reduced.
Athletes find arnica reduces potential for injury, reduces
recovery time from injury and bruising.
Arnica Topical Oil is great for the daily bumps and bruises
inevitable in life and especially childhood. It is safe for kids.
Phyto-Tech™ Arnica Oil 1:6 Topical contains the following:
Arnica montana Flowers (Wild Harvested), Sage Essential Oil,
Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Olive Oil,
Note: First extracted in alcohol and oil to maximize potency,
then the alcohol is removed.

Nutrients Improve Bone Density and
Protect Against Osteoporosis in Women
Here is a study that tests the effective-
ness of multiple natural compounds
together…
finally
! The drug model is fine
for studying just one single drug. But
nutrients work in concert, studying one
herb or nutrient is missing the point. This
study looked at more than just plant-
sourced calcium. The supplement they
used also contained the bone restoring
compounds magnesium, boron, stron-
tium, trace minerals, vitamin C, and vita-
min D. The results are not surprising.
Properly formulated, nutrient/herb formu-
lations can be very effective and are con-
venient. I hope we see more studies like
this. Adding vitamin k2 as MK-7 to the
study may have had better results.
However there are many bone formulas
similar to the one used in this study that
include vitamin k2 as MK-7.
Here’s my top choices: (see below)

D
octors expect women to lose bone
mineral density (BMD) with age. In this
study, doctors followed 202 women who had
measured bone density by taking a bone
density exam or a blood chemistry test, and
who had taken a plant-sourced calcium and
vitamin-mineral supplement over seven years.
Doctors found a significant, nearly linear
annual increase in BMD of 1.04 percent per
year, for a total of 7.3 percent increase in
BMD over seven years. The supplement
contained 720 mg of calcium, 72 mg of
magnesium, 3 mg boron, 680 mg elemental
strontium, 1,608 mg trace minerals, 50 mg
vitamin C, and 1,600 IU vitamin D3.
Commenting on the findings, doctors said
the results were the opposite of changes they
would expect, and in direct contrast to
observed decreases in BMD of 0.4 percent
per year in a database covering 16,289
women. The results suggest plant-sourced
calcium can significantly increase total body
BMD in women.

Black Tea Flavonoids Improve Bone
Density & Protect Against Osteoporosis
Flavonoids, also called bioflavonoids,
are naturally occurring plant chemicals
found in nearly all species of fruit, vegeta-
bles, and medicinal herbs. Beverages such
as tea, coffee, wine, and beer have con-
siderably high amounts of flavonoids. It
has been suggested that the antioxidant
and anti-inflammatory actions of
flavonoids called catechines, are what
support and protect bone. Both green
and black teas are from the leaves of the
Camellia sinensis plant and contain cate-
chines. If you don’t like drinking tea, you
can take black tea extract in capsules or
green tea extract in liquid or capsules .
The advantages of green or black tea
extracts are the higher concentration of
catechines.

n one of the few studies to follow women
tea drinkers over time, doctors measured
food and beverage frequency in 1,188
women and followed up for 10 years.
Compared to women who drank one cup
of tea or less per week, women who drank
three or more cups of tea per day were 30
percent less likely to have an osteoporotic
bone fracture. Looking at total flavonoids
from tea and diet, women who got the most
flavonoids were 34 to 42 percent less likely to
have any fracture, a major fracture, or hip
fracture, compared to women who got the
least flavonoids.
