More than half of women who take
antidepressants complain of sexual dys-
function, with many discontinuing treat-
ment. In this study, 42 women with
depression and sexual dysfunction from
antidepressants took a placebo or 1,500
mg of maca root twice per day.
Maca is an herb (derived from a crucif-
erous vegetable native to the Andes
Mountains of Perus, long used there as a
food and medicine.
After 12 weeks, more women in the
maca group reported being in remission,
meaning better sex drive, arousal, vagi-
nal lubrication, and ability to reach
orgasm. In another measure, 30 percent
of the women taking maca reported hav-
ing restored normal sexual experience
compared to 20 percent for placebo.

Maca Root and Sexual Function
in Women
Interestingly, maca has been shown to
be of value to both men and women.
In men, studies have shown it to
improve low libido and infertility, and
women have used it successfully for
menopause. It’s action in women is
often categorized as “balancing
hormones.”

Additional Comments
from Don Goldberg
Who knows what might have
happened if they had vitamin
supplements back in those days?
Don't take any chances.
Ensure optimal health by
taking the appropriate nutritional
supplements.
At the very least, take plenty of
calcium, magnesium and
vitamin D. Strong bones may
be more important than
you think!
