Ingredients: Phyto-Tech™ Throat Spray contains the following: Fresh Osha Root, Echinacea angustifolia Root, Propolis, Thyme Herb, Fresh Spilanthes Flower, Fresh Ginger Root, Licorice Root, Aloe Vera, Vegetable Glycerin, Deionized Water, Organic Honey, Natural Flavors (Raspberry and Mint) Throat Spray can be used as a preventive measure, i.e. before lecturing, flying on airplanes, contact with sick people, etc, or at the first onset of a respiratory illness. For colds and flu, Throat Spray is a powerful and immediate lung white blood cell stimulant (Osha, Propolis). Phlegm is loosened with Licorice and the lungs are opened with Osha. Thyme is specific for throat infections while Propolis coats and helps create an immune barrier. General immunity is stimulated with Echinacea and Spilanthes. Both of those herbs also increase saliva, which pH corrects the mouth and throat to prevent bacteria penetration. As long as saliva and healthy mucus cover the throat, microorganisms such as Strep and influenza will have a harder time penetrating tissue and moving into the body. Licorice, Aloe Vera and honey help to coat mucosal tissue like the throat as demulcents. Ginger increases blood supply to the respiratory tract to bring in innate immunity and help resolve an infection. Throat Spray may be helpful to athletes, asthmatic and those exposed to high altitudes as Osha will increase oxygen uptake. It is great for high altitude sports. Osha brings blood into the capillaries of the lungs, thus facilitating oxygen uptake via hemoglobin. Traditionally, these herbs and nutrients would be expected to exert the following actions: Thyroid Stimulant, Adaptogen Indications: Thyroid Complex is a complex formula that provides nutritional support for the thyroid gland, stimulates hormone production, and restores normal metabolic balance in the body. The thyroid hormones are responsible for the body’s use of energy, known as the basal metabolic rate (BMR). They are also critical for cell respiration and the production of ATP energy, and are required for normal growth and development, protein synthesis and energy metabolism. While a blood test can be used to test for low thyroid activity, thyroid tests are commonly normal yet one still has the symptoms of low thyroid. These symptoms include fatigue, running cooler than others (feeling cooler in your body), cold hands and/or feet, sluggish bowels, and slow digestion. The amino acid L-tyrosine is a precursor to the thyroid hormone Thyroxine (T4) and helps stimulate the thyroid gland. Zinc is needed to convert T4 into the active hormone Triiodothyronine (T3) and low levels of zinc have been shown to contribute to hypothyroidism. The Ayurvedic herbs Ashwagandha, Gotu Kola and Bacopa all have stimulating effects on the thyroid and support the body’s production of thyroid hormones. Ashwagandha is restorative and rejuvenating for those experiencing burn-out, weakness, and fatigue. It’s known as the “Ayurvedic” Ginseng and can give additional Chi or energy and help one adapt to stress. Gotu Kola stimulates the thyroid and physical and mental energy and will help with fatigue, confusion, and general lethargy. Bacopa enhances memory, learning and concentration while reducing anxiety and stress. The trace mineral Iodine is required for the production of the thyroid hormones that regulate the metabolic energy of the body and set the basal metabolic rate (BMR). Most of the iodine in the body is concentrated in the thyroid. Iodine must be obtained regularly from the diet, as the body does not store the mineral and eliminates it quickly. Potassium iodide is a source of iodine that can be easily taken up by the thyroid gland. Kelp and Bladderwrack are forms of algae that are rich in iodine and other important vitamins and minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, niacin, riboflavin, and choline. They also contains algin, a polysaccharide which has been used to help pull out intestinal toxins and heavy metals. Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is involved in metabolism and is essential for the body to utilize carbohydrates, proteins, . . . continued on page 100 Important Notice: The information given here is designed to help you make informed decisions about your health, and the proper use of dietary supplements. Product Reference Guide: Willner Chemists Phyto-Tech™ Herbal Supplements L ack of nutrients, or the inability to absorb nutrients, is a well-known factor in long- term psychiatric disorders. This study looked at first-time, or first episode, psychosis (FEP). Doctors analyzed findings from 28 studies that measured blood levels of six vitamins and 10 minerals in 2,612 individuals who were experiencing FEP or who were in the early stages of treatment. Nine of the studies found a strong link between low levels of vitamin B9 (folate) and FEP. Seven of the studies found that low levels of vitamin D were a major difference between those with FEP and similar, but healthy non-psychiatric individuals. Five studies measured antioxidants and found large deficits of vitamin C in FEP. This is the first study to measure nutrient status in FEP, and the first to show that, compared to non-psychiatric individuals, people with FEP may also have low nutritional status even before antipsychotic treatment.
