Willner Chemists: The Nutritional Supplement Professionals
Nutrients and Herbs Improve Cognition,
Memory, and Attention
This new discovery adds to the growing
list of health benefits of Vitamin K.
According to Life Extension Magazine,
“Vitamin K is capable of opposing many of
the leading causes of death in modern-day
Americans—including atherosclerosis,
osteoporosis, diabetes, and cancer —
because it has the unique ability to activate
proteins involved in these conditions. 16
different vitamin K-dependent proteins
have been identified. This means that they
depend on vitamin K to activate them in
order to carry out their intended role.” Both
vitamin K-1 and MK-7 as K-2 would provide
the same cognitive benefits. However, K-2
as MK-7 has the additional benefits of being
bone protective, cardioprotective, and may
play a role in cancer prevention.
If you’re already taking Vitamin K-2 as
MK-7 great, now you’ve got another
incentive to continue. If you’re not, well
now’s a great time to start. Symptoms of
possible vitamin K deficiency are easy
bruisability, nose bleeds, gastrointestinal
bleeding, menorrhagia, and osteoporosis.
Just remember, Vitamin K may be
contraindicated with medications like blood
thinners or if you have a blood clot
disorder, so check with your doctor first.

Vitamin K and Cognition
A
new discovery links vitamin K with the
protective sheaths and membranes
around neurons; the nerves cells that process
and transmit signals in the brain and body.
Earlier studies found vitamin K supports
memory, and cognition can decline when
drugs deplete vitamin K, leading doctors to
test for a link between vitamin K and
cognition in older adults.
In this study, doctors measured vitamin K in
the diets of 192 people, aged at least 65, and
compared cognitive performance between
those who got the least vitamin K to those
who got more. People with higher levels of
vitamin K performed better on tests of
memory, attention, math, and language, and
scored higher on behavioral measures
including self-control, mood, and desire to
engage in everyday activities.
Discussing the findings, doctors said
vitamin K may play a role in preventing
dementia, and that ensuring adequate
vitamin K in the diet may improve cognition
and behavior in older adults.
