coffee bean studies, covering several hun-
dred people and ranging from four to 22
weeks. The doses in the studies were 46 to
1,050 mg of green coffee bean extract per
day, or a placebo, and included both normal-
weight people with high blood pressure and
overweight people.
Combining all results, and compared to
placebo, those who took green coffee bean
extract lost significantly more weight. While
there were no weight-loss benefits for nor-
mal-weight people with high blood pressure,
those who were overweight or obese saw sig-
nificant weight-loss benefits.
What is “green coffee bean extract?” The
coffee we drink as a beverage starts off as
green coffee beans, but these beans are first
dried and roasted. These changes the beans
composition.
The purported effects of coffee on weight
loss and glycemic control have been attrib-
uted to components in coffee, such as
chlorogenic acid, quinides, lignans, and
trigonelline, that are much higher in raw,
unroasted green coffee beans than in the
roasted beans. These components have all
been shown to improve glucose metabolism
in animal studies.
Chlorogenic acids, a major group of pheno-
lic compounds found in coffee and the active
constituents in various weight loss supple-
ments, have been shown to inhibit the glu-
cose-6-phosphatase enzyme system in vitro.
Glucose-6-phosphatase catalyzes the forma-
tion of glucose from the liver and has a piv-
otal role in blood glucose regulation. Thus, it
has been surmised that chlorogenic acids in
the coffee may be responsible, at least in
part, for the reduced risks of glycemic disor-
ders with long-term coffee use. The hypo-
glycemic effects of chlorogenic acids may
also underlie its purported antiobesity effects

ened with Inositol (650 mg.), Thiamine
(Men: 1.5 mg, Women 1.1 mg), and GABA
(100 mg.). Synchrony can be improved with
St. John’s Wort (300 mg), Fish Oil (5g), and
Vitamin B-12 (250 mcg.)

Lifestyle:
How we behave can impact
our brain biochemical levels. Voltage can be
increased by power naps, deep-breathing
exercises, and weight lifting. Speed can be
enhanced with scheduled quiet time, medi-
tation, and aerobic exercise. Rhythm can be
strengthened with relaxation, non-scheduled
activities, and task delegation. Synchrony can
be improved with increased future planning,
introspection, and deeper relationships.

Hormones:
Replacing declining hor-
mones in our bodies can also impact our
neurotransmitters. To increase voltage, add
testosterone, estrogen, DHEA, thyroid, and
cortisol. To enhance speed, add growth hor-
mone, insulin, vasopressin, calcitonin,
parathyroid, and erythropoietin. To strength-
en rhythm, add progesterone, cortisol, and
pregnenolone. To improve synchrony, add
progesterone, and pregnenolone.

Reversing an Aging Brain Code

Traditional medicine conditions both doc-
tors and patients to believe that returning an
individual to total health means addressing a
specific disease or individual body part with
medication or surgery. Yet, our entire body,
from head to toe, is intricately connected
and dependent on these complex connec-
tions to maintain our health. For example, if
you are diagnosed with diabetes, chances are
your body is also troubled in other ways.
Elevated sugar levels damage not only your
blood circulation, skin, eyes, and heart but
also cause weight gain. Weight gain, in turn,
carries a whole host of additional deteriorat-
ing impacts for your body including gall blad-
der disease, sleep disorders, and arthritis.
The key to maintaining total health is to
recognize the first, earliest symptoms that
present themselves from every part of the
body, and stop, or pause, these illnesses
before their negative impacts drastically
change one’s overall health. What’s more,
conditions we normally associate with aging,
and are asked to accept as “just part of life”,
result from an internal aging code that can
now be changed. Diminished libido, declin-
ing muscle strength, loss of height, memory
lapses, or reduced cognitive function no
longer have to be the inevitable conse-
quences of aging.
The secret to breaking the aging code is
simple: it all starts in the brain. Healthy aging
is associated with an increased degree of
brain function; and, the brain controls the
health of the rest of the body. The most com-
mon ailments, including back pain, osteo-
porosis, and high blood pressure are all age-
related conditions that are affected by an
increasingly aging brain. The latest studies,
and my own patient work, have shown that
the brain can be taught to break the aging
code and restore health. It’s a simply reme-
dy: to restore your health, restore your brain
chemistry. And, the earlier you start, the bet-
ter your chances of postponing or completely
avoiding the ravages of aging.
To prevent or reverse aging, we need to
control and enhance the electrical signals
that are sent from the brain to the body.
There are four measurements that determine
the relationship between brain function and
the creation and delivery of human electricity
to the body:
1.
Voltage:
Voltage measures power, or the
intensity at which the brain responds to a
stimulus, and the effectiveness of the brain's
ability to process information. It determines
metabolism and how your body processes
food. It controls the various states of con-
sciousness ranging from fully alert to deep
sleep, and how you choose to meet your
emotional and physical needs. When your
voltage is low, obesity, thyroid disorders, and
chronic fatigue are likely to result. It express-
es itself through dopamine, the principle
amphetamine-like chemical of the brain.
2.
Speed:
Speed measures how fast we
think or process information. By increasing
your brain speed you can improve memory,
attention, IQ, and even your behavior. When
your brain speed slows you might become
forgetful, and experience the first signs of
dementia or loss of mental quickness, atten-
tion, and memory. It expresses itself through
acetylcholine, the main insulation of neu-
rons.
3.
Rhythm:
Rhythm measures the balance
between the two brain hemispheres. A bal-
anced brain creates and receives electricity in
a smooth, even flow. When the electricity is
generated in bursts, it is called an arrhyth-
mia; and, it signifies the beginning of brain
dysfunction. When your rhythm is affected,
you might feel anxious, nervous, or irritable.
What's more, rhythm also influences how
acutely you feel pain. It expresses itself
through GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid),
the calming chemical of the brain.

Synchrony:
Synchrony balances the
movement of the four different brain waves
across both brain hemispheres. The electrici-
ty your brain creates moves through your
body in different types of waves. When they
are out of balance, you will experience sleep
disorders during the night and depression
and fear during the day. It expresses itself
through serotonin, the principle sleep regula-
tor of the brain.
When any of these four neurotransmitters
is lacking, aging begins. Fortunately, deficien-
cies in each can be overcome in a variety of
ways:

Diet:
Food can directly impact each bio-
chemical. In specific, voltage can be
increased by eating wheat germ, eggs, beans,
and yogurt. Speed can be enhanced with
blueberries, cauliflower, almonds, and celery.
Rhythm can be strengthened with caffeine-
free herb teas, bananas, brown rice, and cit-
rus fruit. Synchrony can be improved with
salmon, avocado, pork, and sunflower seeds.
2.
Vitamins/supplements:
Complementary
to diet, a variety of herbal, mineral, and nat-
ural remedies can impact our neurotransmit-
ters. Voltage can be increased with Rhodiola
(75 mg.), dlPhenylalanine (300mg), and
Tyrosine (200 mg.). Speed can be enhanced
