Antiox Phyto Blend
Antiox Phyto Blend
Some of the most powerful, broad-spectrum antioxidants are
those found in plants. This supplement contains a blend of
several of the most potent plant-derived phyto-antioxidants
available, in a convenient liquid extract.
Who might benefit from this supplement? Anyone needing antioxi-
dant protection as well as those looking for enhanced immunity,
those with cardiovascular problems, stress, and concerns about envi-
ronmental pollution. It is also an essential component of any “anti-
aging” supplement regimen.
More specifically, this herbal supplement might benefit: Those
who desire protection against everyday toxins--dietary, environmen-
tal and chemical. Those with current health problems, those under
high amounts of stress, smokers or those exposed to second-hand
smoke, and anyone who lives or is exposed to a toxic lifestyle. Those
who are at risk to the various degenerative diseases associated with
aging, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, cognitive impair-
ment, Alzheimer’s disease, immune dysfunction, cataracts, and mac-
ular degeneration. Those who want to live a longer, healthier life.
Phyto-Tech Antiox Phyto Blend is a mixture of powerful plant-
derived (phyto) antioxidants. Most health problems are either direct-
ly or indirectly related to oxidative (free-radical) damage. While vita-
mins and minerals (vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium, for example)
are antioxidants, it is now recognized that phytoantioxidants, rich in
a broad spectrum of flavonoids, polyphenols, anthocyanidins, etc are
the most powerful.
Phyto-Tech™ Antiox Phyto Blend contains the following: Acai
Berry 4:1, Mangosteen Extract, Goji Berry Extract, Pomegranate

New Study Confirms Nutrients
Cut Symptoms of PMS
Omega-3s, soy isoflavones,
rosemary, and B vitamins
Several earlier individual studies found that
various nutrients--omega-3s, soy isoflavones,
rosemary extract, and B-complex vitamins--
helped reduce symptoms of PMS. To follow
up on this, Doctors tested a combination of
what they considered the most helpful nutri-
ents in a three-month test to see if results
improved.
In the study, 29 women, average age 27,
took a combination of these nutrients and
reported changes in levels of 10 common
PMS symptoms after three months.
The combination included the omega-3
fatty acids, EPA and DHA, with 84 mg and
39 mg each, respectively, along with 40 mg
of soy isoflavones, 100 mg of rosemary
extract, 2.8 mg of vitamin B1, 3.2 mg of vita-
min B2, and 4 mg of vitamin B6, which par-
ticipants took twice per day with meals.
On average overall after three months,
women reported symptoms declined by
more than half for anxiety, bloating, breast
tenderness, cravings, fatigue, forgetfulness,
headache, insomnia, and skin outbreaks.
This latest research confirms the effectiv-
ness of these various nutrients in treating
PMS. Women suffering from this condition
should be encouraged by these findings, and
try various combinations of these supple-
ments to determine which ones work best for
them. A good multivitamin, with ample B-
Complex Vitamins is a start, along with a high
potency Omega-3 (Fish Oil) supplement. I
suggest discussing the choice of additional
supplements with one of the pharmacits or
nutritionists at Willner Chemists. Some
women may be concerned about soy
isoflavones, for example, and we can help
personalize your regimen depending on your
specific health needs.

Protein Builds Muscle and
Helps Weight Loss.
What Type of Protein Supplement
Works Best?
Research continues to support the value of
proteing supplements for building muscle
and enhancing weight loss. At the same time,
there continues to be some question as to
what form of protein supplement is best.
Whey protein and exercise
In one recent study, for example, doctors
concluded that "there is something unique
about whey protein when it comes to build-
ing lean body mass and maintaining or losing
weight."
Why did they reach this conclusion? The
researchers analyzed 14 studies covering 626
generally healthy adults who took whey pro-
tein with or without exercise. In five studies
where whey protein replaced calories, partic-
ipants lost an average of 9.2 pounds of body
weight. In nine studies of whey protein with
resistance exercise, participants who took
whey protein increased lean body mass by
an average of 4.9 pounds.
Discussing their findings, doctors said there
is a growing body of research that supports
the benefits of whey protein for maintaining
weight and increasing lean body mass.

Soy-dairy protein blend
Looking at it from a different angle, the
nod seems to go to a different type of protein
supplement--the soy and dairy protein blend.
Amino acids form proteins that help build
muscle. It would seem reasonable to expect
that transporting amino acids into muscle
and keeping them there longer after exercise
can better help build and repair muscle. In
this study, 16 healthy participants, aged 19 to
30, took a soy-dairy protein drink, or whey
protein alone, one hour after exercise. The
soy-dairy formula included 25 percent each
soy protein isolate and whey protein isolate
and 50 percent caseinate.
The soy-dairy protein continued to trans-
port amino acids into muscle one hour
longer compared to whey protein alone. Also
in the soy-dairy group, the level of amino
acids remained elevated in leg muscle during
the post-workout recovery period, suggesting
prolonged muscle building activity with the
soy-dairy protein combination.
Now it is important to note that both types
of protein supplements in this study con-
tained some whey protein. In fact, the term
"dairy" covers whey protein. Dairy, or milk
protein, consists of two fractions--a water sol-
uble fraction, whey, and a wather insoluble
fraction, casein. So the difference between a
"whey protein" supplement and a "soy-dairy
protein drink" that contains 50% caseinate
and 25% whey protein may not be that
great. One is 100% dairy and the other is
75% dairy. Was the presence of 25% soy
really the reason for the prolonged elevation
of amino acid levels? Maybe the soy protein
just takes longer to digest, thus resulting in
longer blood levels? Maybe a blend of com-
plementary proteins is better than one isolat-
ed form?
