American Ginseng does not treat disease directly, but
strengthens the body's ability to adapt to stress and

American Ginseng is especially helpful during the
later stages in life, the effects of years of stress, wear

Antiox Phyto Blend
Antiox Phyto Blend
Some of the most powerful, broad-spectrum
antioxidants are those found in plants. This
supplement contains a blend of several of the most
potent plant-derived phyto-antioxidants available, in
a convenient liquid extract.
Who might benefit from this supplement? Anyone
needing antioxidant protection as well as those looking
for enhanced immunity, those with cardiovascular
problems, stress, and concerns about environmental
pollution. It is also an essential component of any
“anti-aging” supplement regimen.
More specifically, this herbal supplement might bene-
fit: Those who desire protection against everyday tox-
ins--dietary, environmental and chemical. Those with
current health problems, those under high amounts of
stress, smokers or those exposed to second-hand
smoke, and anyone who lives or is exposed to a toxic
lifestyle. Those who are at risk to the various degenera-
tive diseases associated with aging, including cancer,
cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment,
Alzheimer’s disease, immune dysfunction, cataracts,
and macular degeneration. Those who want to live a
longer, healthier life.
Phyto-Tech Antiox Phyto Blend is a mixture of pow-
erful plant-derived (phyto) antioxidants. Most health
problems are either directly or indirectly related to
oxidative (free-radical) damage. While vitamins and
minerals (vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium, for exam-
ple) are antioxidants, it is now recognized that phy-
toantioxidants, rich in a broad spectrum of flavonoids,
polyphenols, anthocyanidins, etc are the most power-
ful.
Phyto-Tech™ Antiox Phyto Blend contains the follow-
ing: Acai Berry 4:1, Mangosteen Extract, Goji Berry
Extract, Pomegranate 40%, Glycerin Vegetable, Water
Pure Deionized, Raspberry Flavor Natural.

(Euterpe oleraceae) is the
fruit of a palm tree native to South America. The pulp
and skin of acai are rich in anthocyanins, proantho-

that acai has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and apop-
tic (programmed cell death). effects A study published
in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry,
showed extracts of Acai berries triggered apostisis in up
to 86 percent of leukemia cells tested.

ry concentrate supplements. We
carry many of them at Willner
Chemists. Solaray, Country Life,
Solgar, Nature’s Way, Bluebonnet,
Life Extension, and many others.
You can find a full listing by going
to our website, www.willner.com,
and searching for cranberry or,
even better, “cran” in the “partial
word search” under “more search
options.”
Willner Chemists has an excellent
cranberry concentrate in our Phyto-
Tech line. It’s called “Cranberry
4:1" and comes as a veggie cap.
Each 400 mg capsule has the
equivalent of 1600 mg of raw cran-
berry. That’s Phyto-Tech Cranberry
4:1, from Willner Chemists. And,
by the way, the full Phyto-Tech line
is on sale at 30% off list price.
There are also combination prod-
ucts. The person who asked the
question was told to give both
cranberry and vitamin C to her
mother. Some companies make a
combination product that contains
both. Solgar has one. American
Health has a blend of Ester C and
Cranberry. For a 93 year old
woman, taking the vitamin C as
buffered C, or Ester C, may be the
better way to go.
Other companies have different
combinations. Some have mixtures
of cranberry with D-Mannose.
Others have mixtures of cranberry
with probiotics. So you have many
choices. The pharmacists and nutri-
tionists at Willner Chemists will be
happy to consult with you if you
need help deciding.
Before leaving this area, there is
one more product I want to men-
tion. It is also in the Willner
Chemists Phyto-Tech line. It’s called
“Urinary Kidney Complex.” This
herbal combination is said to be
effective in actually treating urinary
tract infections, not just preventing
them.
Phyto-Tech™Urinary Kidney
Complex contains the following:
Uva Ursi Leaf, Nettle Leaf, Fresh
Dandelion Root, Juniper Berries,
Fresh Marshmallow Root, Horsetail
Herb, Fresh Ginger Root, Grain
Alcohol, Deionized Water
The Uva Ursi is germicidal in the
urinary tract. Juniper and Myrrh
are also strong antibacterial herbs
for the urinary tract. It is important
to increase the flow of urine to
wash out the urinary tract. This is
facilitated by the addition of
Dandelion, Nettle. It helps to drink
large amounts of water as well. The
Marshmallow is a soothing herb to
the mucosa of the urinary tract to
help decrease pain and discomfort.
So, the two Phyto-Tech supple-
ments I mentioned were the
Cranberry 4:1, in veggie cap form,
and the Urinary Kidney Complex, a
one fluid ounce liquid herbal
preparation.

“Our study confirms that cranber-
ry syrup is a safe treatment for the
pediatric population, including
infants ages less than 2 months,”
said Jose Uberos of the San Cecilio
University Clinical Hospital, Spain.
“Cranberry prophylaxis is shown to
be noninferior versus trimethoprim
in recurrent UTI.”
The study investigated the effec-
tiveness of Vaccinium macrocarpon
cranberry syrup in for the preven-
tion (prophylaxis) of recurrent uri-
nary tract infection (UTI) in chil-
dren. The researchers gave 192
children aged between one month
and 13 years a syrup containing
cranberry extract or low-dose pro-
phylactic treatment with the antibi-
otic trimethoprim – which has
been shown in porevious research
to reduce the incidence of UTI
recurance by around 6%.
“The study hypothesis is that
cranberry syrup is safe and effective
in the prophylaxis of urinary tract
infection, equivalent or at least not
inferior to trimethoprim for the
prophylaxis of UTI,” explained
Uberos and his colleagues.” The
results showed this to be the case.
This is important for several rea-
sons, including the fact the resist-
ance of the bacteria responsible for
urinary tract infections is growing,
creating problems with proper
medical treatment. Cranberry
extract is an effective alternative
prophylactic treatment in young
children.
The cranberry supplement used
in this study was supplied by a
French company, Pharmatoka.
Pack Your Probiotics and
Prevent ‘Traveler’s
Tummy’ From Ruining
Your Summer Vacation
This article provided by Essential
Formulas Inc, Dr. Ohhira Probiotics
DALLAS-May 28, 2012 - As we
approach summer many of us are
planning to spend our free days
traveling. And while summer vaca-
tions are a wonderful way to
unwind and spend time with fami-
ly, they can also take a toll on your
physical health if you’re not pre-
pared.
Many travelers understand first-
hand the unfortunate risks to diges-
tive health that often comes with
venturing to new locales.
Traveling, backpacking, even a sim-
ple camping trip can introduce for-
eign microbes to the digestive tract,
resulting in mild to severe digestive
problems that can ruin a hard-
earned vacation. These problems
may manifest in constipation after
sitting for a long time and immobil-
ity during travel, or in ‘travelers’
diarrhea as a result of changing the
environment and water. Luckily,
this problem can easily be prevent-
ed or relieved if you keep the ben-
eficial bacteria colonies in your gu
healthy and strong thus making
your chances of suffering from suc
digestive distress far less, regardles
of whether you’re in a new place
or your own backyard.
Traveler’s Diarrhea Explaine
Traveler's diarrhea is known by a
variety of colorful names:
Montezuma's revenge, Delhi belly,
Aztec two-step. Whatever you call
it, traveler's diarrhea can ruin your
trip. Probiotics can be a safe and
effective solution in dealing with
the "tourist trots." Gastrointestinal
distress can be attributed to a nu
ber of factors while on vacation,
such as jet lag, stress and contami
nated food and water. "American
Family Physician" states that food
and beverages that contain bacteri
are the most common causes of
traveler's diarrhea. Viruses and par
asites can also be responsible in
some cases.
While here are no vaccines to
prevent TD, probiotics can be
taken before traveling as a form of
‘health insurance’ stated Suzy
Cohen RPh, noted author, syndica
ed health columnist and science
advisor for Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics
“By boosting the immune system
and fortifying the GI tract, probi-
otics can help the body resist and
fight off the unwanted “bad” bact
rial contaminants. Travelers should
also be vigilant about using bottle
water, eating vegetables cooked
rather than raw and washing hand
